Basketbol Süper Ligi 2026/27 (M)
Basketball · 2026/27
Three of the sixteen Turkish clubs also play the EuroLeague: Fenerbahçe, Anadolu Efes and Beşiktaş criss-cross Europe midweek, then come back at the weekend to an Istanbul arena where nobody forgives a lapse. The Basketbol Süper Ligi is settled there, in the wear and tear, more than in the talent.
Fenerbahçe Beko arrive as champions: they took the final off Beşiktaş Gain 3-1, sealing game four by two points (75-77) on the road. Ahead lie 30 rounds and eight playoff places, with Bordo BK and Çayırova Belediyesi stepping into the spots left by Büyükçekmece and Mersin. Quarter-finals are best-of-three; semi-finals and the final, best-of-five.
And the duel that frames the season: Anadolu Efes against Fenerbahçe, neighbours in one city and rivals in two competitions at once. They meet four times a year between the league and the EuroLeague, and not one of those four is played to a half-empty arena. Dare to name who lifts the trophy in June.
Four clubs, one city
Istanbul supplies four of the Süper Ligi's sixteen clubs — Fenerbahçe, Anadolu Efes, Beşiktaş and Galatasaray — and those four have taken nearly everything there was to take. The best regular-season record has gone to Fenerbahçe Beko in six of the last ten seasons and to Anadolu Efes in three. The only crack was opened by Türk Telekom in 2022/23, and it opened once.
What stands out is that the concentration has not hollowed out the rest of the map. The league is also played in Bursa, İzmir, Trabzon, Manisa and Merkezefendi, and the regular season spreads 240 games across sixteen teams playing thirty apiece. The result is a long season in which the big clubs accumulate and everyone else builds a play-off place over seven months.
The other Turkish peculiarity is that the champion is not whoever finishes the league best. The title is settled in a bracket, and that distinction has consequences: Beşiktaş reached the 2025/26 final from second place and came within two games of winning it.
Last season
Fenerbahçe Beko closed the regular season 26-4, the best record in the league by a single game: Beşiktaş Gain went 25-5 and breathed down their neck for seven months. Bahçeşehir Koleji were third at 21-9 and Türk Telekom fourth at 20-10, already six games off the top.
The final brought the top two together and it was not the formality the records suggested. Beşiktaş won the opener in Fenerbahçe's building 88-80, turning the series upside down on day one. Fenerbahçe answered with a 93-68 that was the most lopsided game of the tie, took the third away 82-71 and closed the fourth, also on the road, 77-75. Three-one, with both closing wins earned away from home.
Beşiktaş had arrived there by eliminating Bahçeşehir in a semi-final they won 73-71 away and 80-71 at home. At the other end of the table, Büyükçekmece finished sixteenth and Mersin fifteenth.
How 2026/27 arrives
The season starts on 25 September and does not close until 7 May: 240 regular-season games before the part that decides the title even begins. Fenerbahçe defend the championship and, more than that, defend a habit — six of the last ten best records belong to them.
There are two new faces. Çayırova Belediyesi and Bordo BK take the places left by Mersin SC and Büyükçekmece, last season's bottom two. The rest of the field holds, which leaves the hierarchy at the top untouched: Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş start as the teams to beat, with Bahçeşehir and Anadolu Efes waiting on the first slip and Türk Telekom, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor fighting to stay inside the bracket.
The interesting question is not who wins the regular season. It is whether Beşiktaş, two wins short in the final and one game short in the table, can turn a year of second places into a first. In Turkey that conversion runs through three series — best of three, then five, then five — and there a whole season fits inside one bad night.
How it is decided
Sixteen teams, thirty games each, home and away against everyone. That regular season spreads 240 fixtures between late September and early May, and it crowns nobody: it only ranks the eight who enter the bracket and decides who holds home advantage when the time comes.
The title is settled afterwards, and under three different formats. Quarter-finals are best of three; semi-finals and the final are best of five. The difference matters more than it looks: a best-of-three quarter-final means a team can finish third across seven months and be gone in four days.
Last season the final turned on a 77-75 in game four, and the visiting side won both closing games. It is the reminder that home advantage in Turkey orders the bracket but does not settle it.
